Frontier Airlines is returning to Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers Airport.
The airline announced Tuesday it will begin direct flights between Oklahoma City, Denver and Orlando Nov. 1, and between Oklahoma City and San Diego in spring 2018.
“[It’s] very exciting,” said Mark Kranenburg, Director of Airports at Will Rogers World Airport. “Air service announcements don’t come that often, so any time we have one it’s very exciting for our community.”
The airline’s return to OKC is part of its expansion into 21 cities and 85 new routes across the U.S., according to Sean Morahan, director-stations at Frontier.
Frontier is a low-cost carrier. It previously offered service in Oklahoma City, but the company left in 2015 in order to cut costs and refashion itself as a budget airline.
Kranenburg said since then, he and others at Will Rogers have been working to get Frontier to return.
“[It is] bringing more destinations and lower fares to the market, which can only help the public,” Kranenburg said.
Customers can book flights to and from Oklahoma City on Frontier’s website with dates beginning Nov. 1.
